Performance is the common language

For over a decade Tess led performance in some of the most demanding arenas in world sport — the Premier League, Formula One, Olympic and Paralympic programmes. Then she took the same science somewhere harder to reach: preparing humans for space. Today she advises space agencies and commercial crews on astronaut selection and training, holds a PhD in aerospace physiology, and serves as a British Army Reserve Officer in the Royal Engineers.

Questions

Sport & space, answered

Who is Tess?

A chartered human performance scientist who moved from leading performance in the Premier League, Formula One and Olympic sport to preparing humans for space flight — via a PhD in aerospace physiology and NASA Ames Research Center.

What connects sport and space?

Both demand extraordinary human performance under extreme conditions. The physiology, nutrition, cognition and team science that win titles also prepare astronauts for launch, microgravity and life beyond Earth.
